Wildlife to be caught on camera
June 8, 2015
Camera traps for wildlife observation have now been set up in Sierra de las Minas, too. Park rangers and staff from Sierra del Lacandón National Park, where cameras have been used for a long time, shared their expertise with their colleagues in the Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve. The first step was a training session in which the participants learned how to use and program the camera traps. The following day the team split into three groups to set up 10 cameras in areas where tracks or other traces of animals, such as jaguars, tapirs, and peccaries, have been seen. Now we have to wait 30 days before we get visual evidence of the marvelous wildlife that roam these forests. Patience, everyone, patience!
